Czech and Slovak territories were frequently crossed by immigrants who were forced to leave their homes after the failure of the November Uprising and resettled in Western Europe. They were predominantly soldiers fighting in the regiments led by Generals Józef Dwernicki, Girolamo Ramorin, Samuel Różycki and others who, during the Uprising, were kept by Austrians in internment camps established in Galicja. Those soldiers left numerous biographical materials. In their personal documents they noted their observations about Czech and Slovak territories under the rule of the Habsburgs concerning such topics as urbanisation, economy, attitudes towards Poles, or national consciousness of Czechs. Furthermore, migrants also described infrastructure or interesting historical sites of the area. This paper discusses selected personal documents. Up to this day, there are numerous volumes of journals and memoirs, some of which have been published. Personal documents in question also contain letters.

Poza tym w opisach marszrut poszczególnych osób (oddziałów) przez terytorium Habsburgów są również kreślone obrazy infrastruktury czy zabytków historycznych mijanych miejscowości. W artykule wykorzystano wybrane (najbardziej reprezentatywne) dokumenty osobiste.
