Structural health monitoring systems for prestressed structures

Abstract

Prestressing technology is primarily used for a large-span elements, carrying heavy loads, which failure consequences would be very substantial. Thus, it is essential to control adequately the process of designing, erecting and further operating of such kind of objects. Computational procedures, presented in the standards, allow for the safe design, but do not provide the full knowledge about structure’s work in its real conditions of use. This knowledge could be acquired by interpreting the results of measurements made by structural health monitoring systems. This article presents an overview of the most important ways to monitor the work of prestressed elements based on selected systems implemented in different types of objects in Poland
