Abstract
The portrait of Gonzalo Guerrero, presented in the chronicles of the Conquest of Mexico with varied nuances, does not adhere to the perpetuated image of the brutal Spanish conquistador. The varied novels and the play analyzed in this paper recreate the vicissitudes and fate of this character and offer their contributions. Intertextuality with the chronicles is the fundamental resource used by the authors of these works, which make a case for the vindication this character within the context of Mayan culture.El retrato de Gonzalo Guerrero que las crónicas e historia de la Conquista de México presentan con diversos matices no se apega a la perpetuada imagen del conquistador español brutal. Las diferentes novelas y la obra de teatro que aquí se analizan reelaboran las vicisitudes y el destino de este personaje y ofrecen sus aportes. La intertextualidad con las crónicas es el recurso matriz en el que se apoyan los autores de las obras, en las que se aducen las razones para reivindicar dicho personaje en el contexto de la cultura maya
