In the article, we discuss a didactic model for the periodization of the history of linguistic thought in Brazil, based on the theoretical-methodological model of Pierre Swiggers (2012; 2019; BATISTA, 2019; ALTMAN, 2019) and on periodization studies of the history of grammar, by Ricardo Cavaliere (2002; 2012). Our proposal, still in the development and theoretical debate phase (KALTNER, 2019, 2020a, 2020b), is to link the history of linguistic thought in Brazil to institutional history, in which there were three great specific administrative models: the ancient colony, the Empire and the Republic. These changes can also be related to three moments in the development of the history of linguistic thought: a missionary period, a secular period and a scientific period, according to the theoretical model still in development. As a case study, we propose to analyze a periodization related to the Art of Grammar of the most used language on the coast of Brazil (ANCHIETA, 1595), the first work with metalinguistic reflections in the context of Brazil, written between 1554 and 1556.No artigo, discutimos um modelo didático para a periodização da história do pensamento linguístico no Brasil, pelo modelo teórico-metodológico de Pierre Swiggers (2012; 2019; BATISTA, 2019; ALTMAN, 2019) e pelos estudos de periodização de história da gramática, de Ricardo Cavaliere (2002; 2012). Nossa proposta, ainda em fase de desenvolvimento e de debate teórico (KALTNER, 2019, 2020a, 2020b), é vincular a história do pensamento linguístico no Brasil à história institucional, em que houve três grandes modelos administrativos específicos: a antiga colônia, o Império e a República. Essas mudanças institucionais teriam se relacionado a três momentos também no desenvolvimento da história do pensamento linguístico: um período missionário, um período secular e um período científico, segundo o modelo teórico ainda em desenvolvimento. Como estudo de caso, propomos analisar uma periodização relacionada à Arte de gramática da língua mais usada na costa do Brasil (ANCHIETA, 1595), primeira obra com reflexões metalinguísticas no contexto do Brasil, escrita entre 1554 e 1556
