El Nuevo Orden Económico Internacional y la defensa de los recursos naturales en la región de América Latina y el Caribe. El caso del litio

Abstract

The work is contextualized within the framework of the struggle for a New International Economic Orderand the close 50th Anniversary of the Program launched by the General Assembly of the United Nationsin 1974 for its structuring. It deals with the importance that concerns the national sovereignty of Statesand how vital control over natural resources is for the achievement of that purpose. The central issue is, inparticular, lithium as an important strategic resource and the possibility of being exploited in the interest of the peoples, in order to solve existing problems. The case is studied through the analysis of the specificsituation in three selected countries: Bolivia, Mexico and Argentina, important economies in the region,with large mineral reserves, as well as the possibility of cooperation and integration in this matter.El trabajo se contextualiza en el marco de la lucha por un Nuevo Orden Económico Internacional y elcercano 50 aniversario del Programa lanzado por la Asamblea General de la Organización de NacionesUnidas, en 1974 para su estructuración. En el mismo se trata la importancia que concierne a la soberaníanacional de los Estados y lo vital que resulta el control sobre los recursos naturales para el logro de esepropósito. El tema central lo constituye, en particular, el litio como importante recurso estratégico y la posibilidadde ser explotado en interés de los pueblos, con la finalidad de solucionar los problemas existentes.El caso se estudia a través del análisis de la situación concreta en tres países seleccionados: Bolivia,México y Argentina, importantes economías de la región, con grandes reservas del mineral, así como dela posibilidad de cooperación e integración en esta materia
