He completed both his internship and residency training ininternal medicine at the USA Medical Center.Dr. Bolton is now accepting new patients. Furr wasrecently inducted into the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame. The inductionceremony and luncheon was held at the Alabama Activities Center inMontgomery, Ala.Dr. Steven Furr completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at theUniversity of South Alabama. He currently serves as vice chair of the USA Boardof Trustees. Dr. Furr has served on numerous hospital committees and aspresident of Clarke County Medical Society.Additionally, Dr. Furr has served on the board of directors and as chairman of theboard of the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians, the Alabama StateCommittee of Public Health, the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners, theAlabama Medical Directors Association and most recently as president of theMedical Association of the State of Alabama.Dr. Furr also holds faculty appointments at the University of South AlabamaCollege of Medicine and Serves on the University of South Alabama Board ofTrustees. Dr. Furr's has received numerous awards including, OutstandingTeaching Resident, Outstanding Service Award and MASA's Membership OutreachAward.The Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame was founded in 1997 with the purpose torecognize those persons, living or deceased, who have made outstandingcontributions to, or rendered exemplary service for healthcare in Alabama.Considerations before being inducted to this hall of fame include length of time inthe field and ability to distinguish themselves from others in the areas of caring,scholarship and dedication to practice. The applicants are chosen by a specialcommittee of representatives from the medical, dental, nursing, healthcareadministration, pharmaceutical, public health and academic communities.One of Dr. Furr's former professors in the USA College of Medicine, the late Dr.Samuel Eichold, was also inducted into the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame onSaturday. Heis a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the AmericanSociety for Surgery of the Hand, the Clinical Orthopaedic Society, the AmericanCollege of Physician Executives, the American Orthopaedic Association, and is theimmediate past president of the Clinical Orthopaedic Society, the second oldestorthopaedic society in the United States.Dr. Meyer is also chair of the Council of Orthopaedic Residency DirectorsEducation Committee.  He has received numerous awards for OutstandingTeacher and Educator at each of the institutions where he has served.Dr. Meyer served as a USA faculty member from 1982 until he was activated formilitary service during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. In 2001, he returned toUSA as professor and chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. In2004 he was appointed associate dean for the faculty practice at the USA Collegeof Medicine and was later named director of compliance for the USA HealthServices Foundation.AOS is an advocate for all orthopaedists at the state and federal level and itspurpose is the advancement of orthopaedic surgery in all its phases.
