Wacana Kemiskinan dan Budaya Jawa dalam Video Musik

Abstract

Poverty is an important issue that appears in various media, one of them is through a music videos. Aside from being a marketing medium, music videos can play a role in shaping a reflection of the reality of poverty in society through representative lyrics and image cutouts. In Indonesia, the highest poverty occurs on the island of Java and experiences problems in poverty alleviation. This problem can occur due to several factors, one of which is the culture that exists in the community itself. This study aims to describe how poverty and Javanese culture are related in music videos through critical discourse analysis. The dispositive concept of S. Jager and F. Maier's discourse is used to reveal the reflection of the reality of poverty that occurs through discursive analysis, non-discursive analysis, and the materialization of discourse. The theory used in this research are Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Oscar Lewis’s Culture of Poverty. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with purposive sampling technique and five selected music videos as the unit of analysis. Data collection techniques were carried out using internet documentation and supported by a literature review. The results of the study show that the poverty that occurs in the Javanese society occurs structurally due to uneven development, employement, health services, especially in vilages and culturally due to the lazy nature of society which causes poverty
