Abstract
This paper reports the results of a research carried out on the basis ofPsychology and Linguistics theories, in which we aimed at analyzing the beliefs of two inserviceEnglish teachers concerning the teaching/learning process of that language. As the fundament for this research, we used studies regarding foreign language teaching/learningwhose aim was investigating the issue of beliefs. We chose the case study as methodologyand the following instruments to collect the data: questionnaire, classroom observation,and journal. The results show that participants have similar and distinct beliefs, as well asthe fact that an English teaching major degree or its absence influences their teachingpractice.Este artigo relata os resultados obtidos em uma pesquisa com base nospressupostos da Psicologia e da Lingüística, em que buscou-se analisar as crenças de doisprofessores de inglês em serviço sobre o processo de ensino/aprendizagem desse idioma.O referencial teórico apoiou-se em estudos da área de ensino/aprendizagem de línguasestrangeiras que tiveram como foco de investigação o construto crenças. A metodologiaescolhida foi o estudo de caso e os seguintes instrumentos de coleta de dados foramutilizados: questionário do tipo semi-aberto, observações de aulas e diário. Os resultadosindicam que os participantes apresentam algumas crenças em comum e outrascontrastantes, e que a formação específica na área ou a falta dela influencia sua práticadocente
