He also has performed with the Denver and Vancouver symphonies and has worked under such conductors as Julius Rudel, William Steinberg, Sir John Barbirolli, James Levine, Igor Stravinsky, Andre Previn, Max Rudolph and Carlos Chavez. Mr. Bedford also is a bassoonist with the Teton Festival Orchestra in the summer.He has studied with Hugh Cooper, William Polisi, George Goslee and Leonard Sharrow and has been a participant in the Blossom Festival as well as the Marcel Moyse Wind Seminars.Mr. Bedford did his undergraduate work at the University of Con­necticut in Storrs, earned a master's degree in music at the University of Michigan and taught at the universities of Nebraska, Washington, Colorado and Illinois before he joined the ISU faculty in 1972.ARIS CHAVEZ is 2nd clarinetist with the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra during the summer. He is a former member of the Alburquer- que Symphony and has performed as a free-lance artist with the New York City Opera and the Brooklyn Philharmonic.As a member of the Phoenix Woodwind Quintet in 1970, he toured Europe under a Martha Baird Rockefeller grant and performed with Young Audiences in New York City. Mr. Chavez joined the ISU faculty in 1972 with a master's degree in music from the University of New Mex­ico.PHILIP HILLSTROM is a graduate with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oregon. Mr. Hillstrom has played solos and conducted clinics on the West Coast and in the Midwest and performed with orchestras and chamber music groups throughout the U.S.Mr. Hillstrom has participated in several Moyse chamber music seminars and has studied with Douglas Campbell, Dale Clevenger, Philip Farkas and Barry Tuckwell. A member of the ISU faculty since 1969, he performs regularly on campus with the Lyric Chamber Players.TIMOTHY HURTZ has performed with the Chicago Symphony un­der Georg Solti and Carlo Maria Guilini, and has studied under Ray Still.Mr. Hurtz also has performed under James Levine in the Meadow­brook Festival; Michael Tilson Thomas in Los Angeles' Monday Evening Concerts and Debut Orchestra; Neville Marriner in the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra; Denise Russell Davies in the Chicago Civic Orchestra; Ingolf Dahl at the University of Southern California, and Maurice Abravannel at the Music Academy of the West.Still other groups with which he has performed include the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, the Joffrey American Ballet, the North Carolina Symphony and the Ojai Festival Orchestra. In addition, he was solo oboist with Gerard Schwartz and Rene Seibert under Alexander Schneider in the Christmas String Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. He also has taken part in the Marcel Moyse Woodwind Seminars.A graduate of the University of Southern California where he studied with William Criss, Mr. Hurtz teaches at the Red Fox Summer Music Camp in Massachusetts and has been a member of the ISU facul­ty since 1973.MAX SCHOENFELD is a former principal flutist with the New Orleans Philharmonic under Werner Torkanowsky. He also has per­formed with the Leningrad Ballet and toured with the Boston Pops Orchestra under Arthur Fiedler.A native New Yorker, Mr. Schoenfeld has done free-lance work in several Broadway shows and has played with the American Symphony under Leopold Stokowski. Earlier, he was a three-year member of the U.S. Army Band at West Point.He has attended and studied at Moyse flute seminars for the past six years and has taught at Oberlin College, the Interlochen Arts Academy and the National Music Camp at Interlochen. A graduate of the Manhat­tan School of Music, Mr. Schoenfeld has been a faculty member at ISU since 1971. His teachers were Harold Bennett (Principal, Metropolitan Opera); William Kincaid (Principal, Philadelphia Orchestra); John Wummer (Principal, New York Philharmonic), and Francis Blaisdell (Principal, City Center Ballet).
