We present an SNMP-based MIB for storing and updating management information in a Narrow-Band ISDN computer interface (ISDN controller). The ISDN Controller MIB has two major parts, the telecommunications part, which enables the manager to control and monitor the ISDN connections, and the data communications part, oriented to the monitoring and control of the data exchange over the ISDN network. The MIB is divided into three groups: the controller group, that contains general information about the controller; the port group, that contains cumulative information about the connections established over a single BChannel; and the connection group, that contains information about the established connections. Apart from the specification of the MIB, we examine possible ways of accomplishing the physical connection between the manager and the SNMP agents, since the use of the ISDN network is not cost-efficient for the transmission of management information.
