A new synthetic method consisting of a hydroboration/imine reduction sequence is described. Hydroboration of 3-[(1-phenylethylidene) amino]-propene with optically pure isopinocanpheylborane is followed by the reaction with diethylzinc and then the oxidation with hydrogen peroxide to produce 3-(1-phenylethylamino)-1-propanol with a moderate enantioselectivity. The alkylborane produced in the hydroboration step forms a chiral five-membered complex structure which induces the new chirality in the imine reduction step
