The science-technology-society and innovation relationship in Cuban health professionals training

Abstract

Introduction: the relationship between science-technology-society and innovation has gained a transcendental importance nowadays, thus, it is necessary to train reflective attitude in health professionals concerning this relationship and its significance to solve the health problems. Objective: to argue the importance of an adequate science-technology-society and innovation relationship for training the health professionals in Cuba. Methods: a narrative review was carried out at the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas in Guantánamo between March and June 2020. The search was on different bibliographic databases: Pubmed/Medline, Science Direct and SciELO, and also in some other reference works of foreign and national authors, as well as the outcomes of various research, scientific articles, master's and doctoral thesis. Results: information was performed based on historical background of the Science-Technology-Society and Innovation relationship, training in Science-Technology-Society and Innovation, role of social innovation, and the importance of the science-technology-society and innovation relationship for training the health professionals in Cuba. Conclusions: the science-technology-society and innovation relationship constitute an imperative to train the health professionals in Cuba, so taking into account this item, all medical universities have a high responsibility on the treatment to be given to the related topic in order to consolidate the science-technology and innovation aspects to increasingly humanistic and responsible actions, at the time of making accurate decisions in medical and health care practice
