Vaginal discharge syndrome in twin pregnancy

Abstract

Introduction: there are several studies made in Guantanamo province related to the vaginal discharge syndrome, but with little emphasis in the links between this condition and the twin pregnancy. Methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was undertaken, with the goal of characterizing vaginal discharge syndrome in women with twin pregnancy in the Hogar Materno Provincial (Provincial Maternal Home) ¨Cristina Pérez Pérez¨ in Guantanamo in the period between January 2018 to March 2019. The sample was made out of 45 patients. The variables studied were: age, origin, marital status, personal medical history, cause and treatment. Results: the study shows predominance in women under 35 years of age (n=34; 74.6%) residing in urban areas (n=20; 57.1%) and with no previous apparent medical history (n=29; 82.9%). The most common cause of the vaginal discharge syndrome was bacterial vaginosis (n=19; 42.3%). Most patients had a positive response to the treatment (n=37; 82.2%). Conclusions: vaginal discharge syndrome represents a health problem with several implications in twin pregnancy because it is one of the high risk causes of premature births
