Effectiveness of the ozone therapy in patiens with periodontal inflammatory disease

Abstract

Introduction: ozone therapy is included in the big group of therapeutic procedures of Natural and Traditional Medicine. Besides the economical impact of the use of oleozon, this product has also proven to be reliable, passing satisfactorily the preclinical tests, including eye and skin irritability and clinical trials on mutagenicity and teratogenicity. Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of oleozon in patients with chronic periodontal inflammation. Methods: an experimental, longitudinal, prospective, case-control research was carried out in the Periodontal Service in the Faculty of Stomatology at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Villa Clara in the period of time between March 2018 to March 2019. The study population was formed by all the patients who assisted to the periodontal consultation in this period. The 55 patients sample was selected through intentional and criteria-focused non-probability sampling. Data gathering was achieved through periodontal medical records, clinical questioning and physical exam. The variables taken into account were: gender, age, gingival bleeding, probing depth, loss of morphology, effectiveness according to diagnosis and overall effectiveness of the treatment. Results: the most common age groups were from 16 to 23 and from 31 to 39 years of age, with an even gender proportion. Clinical manifestations slowly started to disappear once treatment began, being an effective therapy in all the stages of the research. Conclusions: oleozon is an effective treatment for chronic inflammatory periodontal diseases
