Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Information Systems and Technologies ManagementA tecnologia tem tido uma evolução exponencial ao longo dos últimos anos, sendo difícil estar consciente de toda a oferta existente no mercado e do seu respetivo potencial. Este estudo pretende analisar a possibilidade de aproximar a terceira idade de soluções tecnológicas com o intuito de melhorar a sua qualidade de vida. Assim sendo, a definição de um conjunto de ferramentas tecnológicas a ser implementadas nas casas dos idosos adaptadas às suas necessidades e constrangimentos pode reduzir a distância entre a oferta disponível e o seu uso.
Para a realização deste estudo, é necessária uma clara identificação dos problemas mais comuns sentidos pela terceira idade e quais os principais motivos de distanciamento entre esta faixa etária e a tecnologia. Adicionalmente, é preciso identificar as soluções existentes no mercado que podem ser aplicadas de uma forma simples e a um custo reduzido.
As entrevistas validaram a pertinência do estudo desenvolvido e a possibilidade de ser uma forma de aproximar a tecnologia da terceira idade. Apesar de terem sido evidenciados problemas a nível do apoio financeiro e humano necessário, o setor já está alertado para esta oferta e espera-se que os entraves à sua adoção diminuam com o passar do tempo.Technology has had an exponential evolution in the last years which makes it difficult to be aware of all the existent offer and its potential. This study aims to analyze the possibility to bring the elderly and technology closer to improve their quality of life. Therefore, the definition of a set of technological tools to be implemented in homes for the elderly, adapted to their needs and constraints, can reduce the gap between the available offer and its use.
In order to carry out this study, it is necessary to clearly identify the most common problems experienced by the elderly and what are the main reasons for the distance between this age group and technology. Additionally, it is necessary to identify existing solutions on the market that can be applied in a simple way and at a reduced cost.
The interviews validated the pertinence of the study developed and the possibility of being a way of bringing technology closer to the elderly. Although problems have been highlighted in terms of the necessary financial and human support, the sector is already aware of this offer and it is expected that the barriers to its adoption will decrease over time
