The impact factor is but one indication of therelevance and importance of the work appearing in thejournal. The findings published in Histochemistry andCell Biology are of high immediate interest reflected inthe immediacy index which is as high as 1.151.Since 2001, no charges at all are made for publicationof color illustrations, and no manuscript processing fees,page charges, or charges for halftone illustrations are le-vied. Authors who submit their work to Histochemistryand Cell Biology can expect quick and fair review. Theoption for online submission of manuscripts will beavailable by October 2004. This will further reduce theturnaround time of the manuscripts and speed up theirpublication by Online First and in the print edition. Cur-rently, accepted manuscripts are published by Online Firstwithin three to four weeks and in print after an additionalone to two months, which are considered to be the fastesttimes of publication among the journals in the field.The newly introduced Springer Open Choice offersall Springer journal authors the opportunity to make theirnewly submitted and accepted articles publicly availableto anyone in the world with access to the internet.
