From 1830 onwards, cheap prints, pamphlets, paperbacks and satirical newspapers would become popular in Paris. From this innovative relationship between the press, city and humor, the magazine Semana Ilustrada (1860-1876) projected, in the magic lantern style, the social types and the embarrassments of everyday life in the capital of the Empire of Brazil. From chronicles and lithographs, the article analyzes the methods used by the Semana in the construction of its humorous verve about the city and its types. It was concluded that, inspired by the Molieresque theater and the Parisian graphic comedy of the first half of the 19th century, the Semana e seu riso created in its pages a wide-ranging social framework of Rio de Janeiro, which not infrequently used language and pseudoscientific concepts of naturalism to order it.A partir de 1830, impressos baratos, folhetos, livros de bolso e jornais satíricos se popularizariam em Paris. Dessa inovadora relação entre imprensa, urbe e humor, a revista Semana Ilustrada (1860-1876) projetou, ao estilo da lanterna mágica, os tipos sociais e os embaraços da vida cotidiana na capital do Império do Brasil. A partir de crônicas e litogravuras, o artigo analisa os métodos empregados pela Semana na construção da sua verve humorística sobre a cidade e os seus tipos. Concluiu-se que, inspirada no teatro molieresco e na comicidade gráfica parisiense da primeira metade do século XIX, a Semana Ilustrada e o seu humor criaram abrangentes quadros sociais da sociedade fluminense que eram ordenados, não raras vezes, pela linguagem e pelos conceitos pseudocientíficos do naturalismo
