PanelA shows the first-in-man use of biventricularpercutaneous support with impeller devices(Abiomed Impella, Danvers, MA, USA). The54-year-old patient presented with acute myocar-dial infarction and shock due to biventricular pumpfailure.When angioplasty of the RCA, intravascularvolume optimization, and high-dose inotropesfailed to stabilize the patient, a percutaneous leftventricular-assist devicewas implanted. Pulmonaryoedema resolved, but severe right heart failurewith multi-organ failure (liver, kidney) persisteddespite nitric oxide therapy. Additional percutan-eous device implantation in the right heart ledto circulatory stabilization and progressive organfunction recovery, with successful device weaningon Day 8.
