FischerLabor für Neutronenstreuung, ETH Zürich, CH-5232 Villigen PSI, SwitzerlandTrimagnesium ruthenium trideuteride, Mg3RuD3, was synthetized byreaction of magnesium and ruthenium powders at 610°C at a deuteriumpressure of 9 bar for 7 days; its structure was determined by X-ray andneutron powder diffraction at room temperature. The structure can bedescribed with the tetragonal space group P A2/mnm (a = 7.2729(4) A,c = 6.9302(7) Â, Z = 4), has an Irln3-type metal atom arrangement andcontains two symmetry independent deuterium sites, of which one has anapparent disorder with 50% occupancy.ORu environment in Mg3RuD3.
