看護を志向する学生には、必然的に他者の「死」に向かい合い、さらに看護者として「死」に至るプロセスに身をおく事が求められる。現在多くの看護教育機関では「ターミナルケア」「終末期ケア」の学習が計画されており、近い将来、死を免れ得ない状況にある人の看護について学習し、学生の考えを深めていくねらいで行われている。今回、授業「治癒困難な成人の看護」の前後において、学生の「生」と「死」に対する考えの変化の様相を分析した。また、臨地実習で終末期患者を受け持った学生や遷延性意識障害の患者を受け持った学生の生と死に対する考えをカンファレンスの発言や看護観のレポートから分析した。講義から臨地実習までの学習を通して、学生の「生」と「死」の考え方が拡大、変容していることが示された。基礎看護教育において死生観を育成することは学生の看護を問い続ける基盤ともなりうる重要な要素となっていくであろう。It is inevitable that nursing care students face others' “death” experience processes leading to “death”. At present, in many nursing care educational institutions, learning of “terminal care” and “end-of-life care” is planned, aiming at having students learn about the care of those who cannot escape from death in the near future and to develop their thinking. Here, I analyzed phases of changes in students' thoughts on “life” and “death” before and after taking a lesson in “nursing those who suffer from incurable diseases”. In addition, I analyzed the thoughts on life and death of those students who dealt with end-of-life patients during clinical training and of those who dealt with patients with persistent disturbance of consciousness through their statements at conferences and reports on concepts of nursing. My analysis shows that through lectures and clinical training, the students broadened and changed their ideas about “life” and “death.” Fostering a concept of life and death during basic nursing education will be an important element that may become a base for students to continue asking what nursing really means
