A lot of Japanese college teachers who teach English reading classes find difficulties in teaching English reading to non-English-major students, mainly because of the low motivation of their students and the large variety and difference in English proficiency among them. The purpose of this study, a part of my continual sction research, is to introduce cooperative learning to my reading class in order to promote the students' class participation, and to evaluate it through analysing the questionnaires answered by the students. Both quantitative and qualitative are analysed and discussed. Higher participation, enhancement of understanding through learning each other's way of reading, and stronger achievement feeling are found to be effective factors of cooperative learning
