Research of A Fixed - Bed of Straw for Treating Chromium in Plating Wastewater

Abstract

Industrial development has led to numerous environmental problems. Plating wastewater whose main component is the concentration of heavy metals is an environmental issue of great concern today. Fixed – Bed technology is widely applied in industrial processes and environmental remediation. Straw, which is an agricultural by-product very common and cheap in Vietnam, has potential applications as an adsorbent material in wastewater treatment. Application of plating wastewater treatment with Fixed -Bed technology by using straw as an adsorbent material has great potential and brings high economic efficiency. The study results show that at pH = 6,5 and velocity of 0,15 (m3/m2.h), 20% straw model HNO3(C = 2%) has fertility treatment efficiency of 92,3%, COD - 82,2%, Cr3+ - 59%, Cr6+ - 89,8%, while 20% straw model has water fertility treatment efficiency of 88,4%, COD - 80,2%, Cr3+ - 53%, Cr6+ - 86,4%. It shows that straw with water processors can be used as an adsorbent material for the purpose of treating plating wastewater
