Abstract
Precipitated Calcium Carbonat (PCC) is a product of processing natural materials that contain calcium carbonate through a series of chemical reaction. Carbonation is one of the most widely used processes for making PCC. This study aims to determine the characterization of PCC which can be applied into biomaterials from small crab shells based on the type of crystal produced. The main raw material used for crab shells is taken from the Island of Madura, the content of calcium carbonate in the shell can become PCC in the presence of chemical reactions. The crab shell that has been mashed and sieved 100 mesh size is burned in the furnace at 900˚C for 1 hour, then it is dissolved in HCL 2N with the contact temperature according to the variable. The test carried out was an analysis of the content crab shell using XRF (X-ray Fluorescence), XRD (X-rayDifraksi) to find out the type of crystal and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) to find out crystal form.
