CO-SLEEPING OF MOTHER-INFANT DYAD AND BREASTFEEDING

Abstract

Breastfeeding is important for children's health and development. It is recommended that infants are exclusively breastfed for the first six months after birth, followed by continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary foods until 2 years of age. There is evidence of increased frequency and duration of breastfeeding when mother and infant dyads sleep together. On the other hand, there is a statistical relationship between co-sleeping and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
