Franco entre Oriente y Occidente: La descolonización del Magreb y la reorientación de la Política exterior española

Abstract

After the Second World War, General Francisco Franco hoped to end Spain’s international isolation by improving relations with the Arab world. Spain still retained its Moroccan protectorate, while in Algeria there were hundreds of thousands of settlers of Spanish origin. When the uprising against French colonization (1954) broke out in Algeria, Franco had many reasons for concern. In this article we will analyze to what extent the decolonization of the Maghreb was a turning point in the foreign policy of Franco with the Arab world.Tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el general Francisco Franco buscaba un acercamiento con el mundo árabe para poder salir del aislamiento internacional. España todavía conservaba su protectorado marroquí, mientras que había cientos de miles de colonos de origen español en Argelia. Cuando en esta última estalló el levantamiento contra la colonización francesa (1954), Franco tenía muchos motivos para preocuparse.
