PENGEMBANGAN BUKU CERITA DWIBAHASA DENGAN STRATEGI INTERACTIVE READ ALOUD DALAM PENGENALAN KOSAKATA BAHASA ARAB
(Pengembangan Bahasa Reseptif Anak Usia 5-6 Tahun)
Nowadays, learning foreign languages in early childhood is not
something new for teachers and parents. The foreign languages that are
generally taught at the early childhood education level are English and
Arabic. Foreign language learning in early childhood is still focused on
vocabulary recognition. There are various methods, strategies, and
media that many teachers have developed to be applied according to the
ongoing theme. In the introduction of Arabic vocabulary, the methods
used are motion and song, while the media used by the teacher is still
limited to the use of picture cards. In contrast to the introduction of
English, the teacher has other variations, such as linking it to literacy
activities, namely by reading picture story books in English. Thus, the
researcher offers a new media that can be used for the introduction of
Arabic, namely bilingual (Indonesian-Arabic) picture story books.
The purpose of this research and development is to determine the
strategy of introducing Arabic vocabulary for children aged 5-6 years,
knowing the development of bilingual storybooks for children aged 5-6
years, and knowing trials of developing bilingual storybooks in
developing receptive language skills for children aged 5-6 years at RA
UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
The research and development method used is the 4D method
by Thiagarajan, namely Define, Design, Development, and
Disseminate. The define stage or which is included in the needs
analysis stage consists of identifying problems, identifying student
abilities, and determining material that is appropriate for the child's age.
The design stage consists of determining the media and preparing the
material, determining the strategy, and the initial design of the media.
The development stage is the stage of media finalization, expert
validation, and product testing. While the disseminate or dissemination
stage is the stage of distributing the product and the final conclusion of
the product trial. The test subjects in this study were expert validators,
classroom teachers, and groups of children aged 5-6. The types of data collected are qualitative and quantitative data with data collection
techniques in the form of interviews and questionnaires.
The result of this research and development is a bilingual
(Indonesian-Arabic) picture story book product using an interactive
read aloud strategy that is used to introduce Arabic vocabulary to
develop receptive language skills for children aged 5-6 years. This
product was tested on children aged 5-6 years or group B at RA UIN
Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The results of product expert validation
get a percentage of 95% with interesting criteria and are suitable for use
as teaching media. When the field trial was conducted, there were 2
types of questionnaires used, namely the activity assessment
questionnaire by the teacher and the student's ability assessment during
the activity. The assessment of teacher activities was filled out by 2
teacher respondents, the final percentage was 91% with very suitable
criteria for use. While the results of the student's ability test get the
final percentage of 89% with very suitable criteria for use.
Based on the results of the assessment obtained in this study, it
was concluded that picture story books with the insertion of two
languages in one context, namely Indonesian as the main text and
Arabic as the insertion language could be used as a variation of Arabic
vocabulary introduction media. This book can also be applied using
interactive read aloud strategies or interactive reading aloud, and can be
used in developing receptive language for children aged 5-6 years
