Strategies for Describing Ecological Issues and Elements of Ecocriticism in Contemporary Ukrainian Literature

Abstract

Мета статті — представити стратегію опису екологічної проблематики та виявити елементи екокритики у вибраних творах сучасної української літератури. Стислий аналіз охоплює переважно прозові твори, одну п’єсу та українську тематику у творчості Ольги Токарчук. На перший план висувалися питання взаємозалежності людей і навколишнього світу, літературне зображення життя і смерті у пізнаному просторі. Порушувалася проблема окупації рідної землі та ворожості раніше пізнаного світу. Стаття містить короткий аналіз можливих сценаріїв відродження природи в контексті створення нових відносин з людьми.The aim of the article is to present a strategy for describing ecological issues and to identify elements of ecocriticism in selected works of contemporary Ukrainian literature. A concise analysis covers mainly prose works, one play and Ukrainian themes in the work of Olga Tokarczuk. The issues of interdependence between people and the world around them, the literary image of life and death in a known space, were brought to the fore. The problem of occupation of the native land and the hostility of the previously known world were also touched upon.
