The outside of the mask: • Open communications by emphasizing our uniqueness. • My role is defined by student, as that is an important aspect of our identity. • Exploring silence and taking a moment to learn from another person. The inside of the mask:• Implicit bias in our field can be incredibly dangerous. • Conscious attitudes will allow me to grow. • My Professional identity Formation is focused on our will power and strength that we have inside. Gray 17   Mask Reflection:   There will be many changes during our time as medical students. We believe that during the first two years of medical school, we will be more focused on stage 2 which is independent operator because we will be focused on learning the foundational material well and in-depth. We will want to focus on our individual performance because of the testing that is given during this time. We believe that through different activities we take part in, we will transform to stage 3 which will be team orientation. One of the ways that this will happen will be through small group activities including anatomy lab. We have found that already through these two months that we have been in medical school we have already started this transition as we are focused on being a team member to complete the activities and develop the knowledge we need as medical students.   In order to thrive in medical school, we believe we will need to learn how to ask for help when we need it. We believe that we can figure this out by reviewing material together and being focused on using our personal knowledge to supplement the knowledge we each have. In our mask, we focused on positive affirmations about working as a team and included words like “we cannot do it alone” on the outside to encourage each other. We also focused on the word “independent” because we still are focused on individual knowledge in phase 2 as well. We also included “unique” because we believe we are each unique and bring different attributes to our group.
