Abstract

Three authors examine the photographs, drawings, notebooks and ideas of Polish artist/architectural engineer Szpakowski. Zagrodzki summarizes the scope and complexity of the system of sensorial observation and graphic notation practised by the artist after 1900 - a method which explored the conventions of transposing reality into visual form. Renwart draws from various 20th century visual propositions to establish parallels between Szpakowski's pictorial organization and that of his contemporaries.
