Physical Environment Home and Characteristics of Respondents Related to the Disease of Leprosy Clinical in the City of Bandar Lampung 2015

Abstract

Background: Bandar Lampung is the capital of Lampung province with leprosy prevalence rate is still high. New Case Detection Rate (NCDR) or a new discovery of leprosy patients in the city of Bandar Lampung from 2009-2014 fluctuated annually. The year 2009 found 20 cases subsequently increased each year and to 22 cases in 2014. Methods: The study design used case control study. Total sample was 60 consisted of 20 cases and 40 controls with samples for cases of leprosy patients are 14 health centers in the city of Bandar Lampung, while controls were neighbors of cases (Population Based Control). The data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate using Chi-Square Test. Results: The result of bivariate showed that there was significant correlation between education, employment, personal hygiene, social, economic, residential density and ventilation (chi square test, all p <0.05). It was no correlation between gender, age and humidity (chi square test, all p >0.05). Due to homogeneous of the pure water variable all sample results are negative so it could not be done bivariat analysis Conclusion: The incidence of leprosy in Bandar Lampung is caused by factors of education, employment, personal hygiene, social, economic, residential density and ventilation. Suggestion of this study should provide education and outreach to the community about leprosy, especially to the people in their environment who are lepers and motivate people with leprosy for treatment completely
