Mina Totino

Abstract

The essays in this catalogue focus on Totino's concern with the sublime as a category of aesthetic experience and as an object of contemporary theory. By situating Totino's paintings within the modernist frameworks of abstraction, Minimalism and Conceptualism, as well as the postmodern critique of representation, the authors show how the repression of the feminine within the history of Western painting is countered by the artist's "interruptive logic" and concern with ornamentation. 51 bibl. ref
