Abstract

With reference to Barnett Newman's concept of "the natural desire for the exalted", Avgikos discusses the embodiment of the spiritual sublime in Eckart's paintings and proposes that the work confirms the persistence of allegories of desire and sexuality which underlie both "high art" and mass media imagery.
