Guy Giard : Angélique 1734

Abstract

Inspired by documents on Marie-Josèphe Angélique, a young black woman slave hanged in Montreal in 1734, Giard undertakes to review the history of slavery in Quebec. This series of nine videocassettes includes an interview with Giard, images of his photo installation and of two evenings of performance (music, dance, spoken word), as well as six lectures, in their entirety, given by various professionals (historians, professors, authors…) on the theme of black and Native slavery in Quebec from the 17th to the 21st century. 1 lecture in English
