Abstract
R. Desbiens associates Amantea’s video installation with the mandate of the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris, which seeks to link challenging artwork with technological, industrial and scientific experimentation. Looking for the allegorical meanings in Amantea’s work, Aquin describes its sculptural and audio components. He demonstrates how this work, beyond its minimalist appearances, refers to a popular culture typical of Western Canada (the artist’s birthplace) and, as with previous works, foregrounds the domestic sphere of women and the object-memory function of images.
