In this paper we seek to understand how emojis are used in everyday life. To do this we set out to write several Facebook posts. We found two private groups with similar interests and wrote a post in each with the same text, but in one group there were emojis and in the other there were none. We wrote six posts in six different groups, leaving us with three topics: cats, dogs and Christmas. Analysing the different responses led us to conclude that the frequency with which people responded with emojis to our posts did not seem to coincide with our use of emojis on the original post. What we did find was that emojis did seem to, at times, clarify the meaning of the post, where there was ambiguity. In the end we discuss what kind of an impact emojis have on our communication
