The study is an analysis of a sequence of investigative teaching (SEI) on substance mixtures with students from the 9th grade of Elementary School. The use of SEI strategies, carried out in the Science discipline, were important for the association of the concepts worked in the classroom. With SEI, it was possible to highlight the empirical knowledge that was internalized by the students about the types of mixtures of homogeneous and heterogeneous substances and to give a better direction to the activities developed to help them in the resignification of knowledge. The formative assessment was present throughout this study as a way to make the student reflect on their learning. Despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic, the study provided the active participation of students who developed scientific skills and arguments. The vast majority of those involved were able to reframe their previous knowledge about mixtures of substances by being encouraged and motivated to create hypotheses capable of responding to the problems present in each stage of the experimentation, confronting them with the observed evidence. After carrying out the experimental part, most students were able to correctly describe the process of mixing substances, when compared to the answers given initially, showing that the SEI satisfactorily achieved the proposed objectives.O estudo é uma análise de uma sequência de ensino investigativo (SEI) sobre misturas de substâncias com alunos do 9º ano do Ensino Fundamental. O uso de estratégias da SEI, realizada na disciplina de Ciências, foram importantes para a associação dos conceitos trabalhados em sala. Com a SEI foi possível evidenciar os conhecimentos empíricos que foram internalizados pelos estudantes acerca dos tipos de misturas de substâncias homogêneas e heterogêneas e dar um melhor direcionamento às atividades desenvolvidas para auxiliá-los na ressignificação do conhecimento. A avaliação formativa esteve presente durante toda a realização deste estudo como forma de fazer com que o estudante pudesse refletir sobre suas aprendizagens. Apesar das limitações impostas pela pandemia, o estudo proporcionou a participação ativa dos estudantes que desenvolveram habilidades e argumentos científicos. A grande maioria dos envolvidos foi capaz de ressignificar o seu conhecimento prévio sobre misturas de substâncias ao ser incentivado e motivado a criar hipóteses capazes de responder aos problemas presentes em cada etapa da experimentação confrontando-as com as evidências observadas. Após a realização da parte experimental, a maioria dos estudantes foi capaz de descrever corretamente o processo de misturas de substâncias, quando comparada as respostas dadas inicialmente, mostrando que a SEI atingiu satisfatoriamente os objetivos propostos
