Zürcher Arthur Zürcher (1972) studeerde geneeskunde aan de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. In 2002 startte hij de opleiding tot orthopedisch chirurg in het Slotervaartziekenhuis bij prof. dr. R.G. Pöll.  Op dat moment werd ook de basis gelegd voor het onderzoek waarover dit boek handelt. Thans maakt hij deel uit van de maatschap orthopedie in het Diakonessenhuis, locaties Utrecht en Zeist, met als aandachtsgebieden heup- en knieproblematiek.On the fundamentals of rotating platform total knee arthroplastyBij de juiste indicatie is plaatsing van een totale knieprothese een succesvolle behandeling volgens de huidige ethische standaard. Door innovatie zijn materialen slijtvaster geworden. Toch loert op lange termijn het gevaar van loslating van de prothese. Bovendien zal de verwachtingen van een duurzaam resultaat bij de toekomstige patiënt toenemen. Het aloude Low Contact Stress (LCS) concept biedt een hypothetisch voordeel ter preventie van loslating, dus de kwestie dient zich aan of er voor dit concept plaats is in toekomstige ontwikkelingen.Dit proefschrift handelt over studies naar de mechanische onderbouwing van het LCS-concept en is uitgevoerd bij patiënten die drager zijn van een dergelijke knieprothese.
