The Brazilian National Library and its relationship with the International Institute of Bibliography : Paul Otlet, Henri La Fontaine e Manoel Cícero Peregrino da Silva
Evento realizado pela Associação Nacional de Pesquisa em Ciência da Informação (ANCIB) e organizado pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciência da Informação da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (PPGCIECI/UFMG).No âmbito do ideal de cooperação internacional apregoado por Paul Otlet e Henri La Fontaine, visa evidenciar como se deu o contato entre a Biblioteca Nacional brasileira e o Instituto Internacional de Bibliografia e quais os seus desdobramentos, sendo resultado de uma pesquisa de mestrado em Ciência da Informação, defendida no início do ano corrente. Busca contextualizar o momento de transformações pelo qual a Biblioteca Nacional brasileira passava graças, sobretudo, à construção de um novo prédio e consequente ocupação deste, bem como as transformações administrativas implementadas por seu diretor à época, Manoel Cícero Peregrino da Silva. Posiciona a criação do Serviço de Bibliographia e Documentação e do Boletim Bibliographico da Bibliotheca Nacional como frutos do contato mantido entre as duas instituições Os procedimentos metodológicos consistiram em pesquisas bibliográfica e histórico-documental nos arquivos históricos da Biblioteca Nacional brasileira e nos arquivos do Mundaneum com sede na Bélgica, além dos arquivos do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro e do Itamaraty. Conclui que o Instituto Internacional de Bibliografia e a Biblioteca Nacional do Brasil mantiveram durante alguns anos intensa correspondência e que, ao que parece, tal contato contribuiu para a inserção da Documentação como disciplina no Brasil.Amongst the vision of international cooperation conceived by Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine, the article aims to highlight how was the connection between the Brazilian National Library and the International Institute of Bibliography, and what developed from that relationship. The subject is a result of a Master´s Degree research on Information Science defended in the beginning of the year. It intends to contextualize the period of transformations by which the Brazilian National Library went through, especially during the construction of a new building and its further occupancy as well as the administrative changes implemented by its director at the time, Manoel Cícero Peregrino da Silva. The methodology consisted of bibliographic and documentation based research in the archives of the Brazilian National Library and the Mundaneum Archives Centre in Belgium as well as the Brazilian Historic and Geographic Institute and the Foreign Ministry. The article argues that the establishment of the Serviço de Bibliographia e Documentação and Boletim Bibliographico da Bibliotheca Nacional were results of the contact maintained between the two institutions. It concludes that the International Institute of Bibliography and the Brazilian National Library sustained a close relationship for some years which apparently contributed to introduce the Documentation as a discipline in Brazil
