Author centrality in the development of collaborative networks : analysis of articles published in Accounting, Management and Governance from 1998-2012

Abstract

A análise da forma das relações entre os atores sociais traz informações sobre o ambiente produtivo. A utilização de subsídios para compreensão do desenvolver das pesquisas científicas pode trazer benefícios à produtividade e à qualidade dessas. Ao empregar os conceitos elaborados para a análise estrutural, como aqueles apresentados por Freeman (1979) sobre a centralidade de atores e a diversidades de metodologias, este estudo objetiva entender as peculiaridades dos autores centrais no desenvolvimento de investigações em coautoria. Como base de dados foram utilizados os artigos publicados no periódico Revista Contabilidade, Gestão e Governança, que por meio do uso de software especializado para análise estrutural (Ucinet 6.0) foram tratados, a fim de viabilizar o plote dos gráficos relacionais. Com a análise dos dados foi percebido que a rede se encontra altamente fragmentada, apresentando vários grupos nos quais se aglomeram alguns autores comumente atrelados à mesma instituição de ensino superior. A centralidade geral da rede coube à autora Ilse Maria Beuren, a qual obteve maior número de ocorrências na população, assim como o maior número de ligações diretas. Há evidências de uma série de comportamentos comuns à produção acadêmica da rede como, a preferência por desenvolvimento de investigações em grupos menos numerosos, mais especificamente em dupla, e o baixo número de repetição nas parcerias. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTAnalysis of the relations between social actors provides information about the environment in which production takes place. From this perspective, information which contributes to understanding of how scientific research is developed may be beneficial to the productivity and quality of research. Using concepts for structural analysis of networks, such as those presented by Freeman (1979) on the centrality of players and the diversity of methodologies, this study sought to cast light on author centrality the development of coauthored research. The database selected for study consisted of the articles published in the Accounting, Management and Governance journal. These were analyzed using specialized software for structural analysis of networks (Ucinet 6.0) and the relations observed were graphically plotted. This analysis revealed a highly fragmented network made up of a number of groupings involving authors, usually linked to the same institution. The greatest degree of author centrality observed was that of Ilse Maria Beuren, who presented both the highest number of occurrences in the population and the largest number of direct links with others. A number of common behaviors were evidenced with respect to the academic production of the network, such as the preference for research involving few (usually only two) partners and little repetition or continuity of partnerships
