The paper assesses reforms introduced to orthography, beginning from the early stages of its development until the contemporary times. The author has closely inve-stigated the extent to which prescribed changes have been introduced to the writing practice and shown the remains of the subsequent reforms.
The presented analysis suggests the need to conduct a comprehensive, although not radical, reform in orthography. Almost seventy years have passed since the last major changes were introduced. Part of the orthographic rules currently in force requ-ire ordering, formulating in a more precise and communicative manner and elimina-ting the existing mistakes and inconsistencies
