The article is devoted to the issue of translation of anthroponyms in stage translation. The
article presents tasks and functions of anthroponymus and theirs most popular ways of translation.
The purpose of this article is the presentation of methods of anthroponym translation in
the Nikolaj Gogol’s play – Marriage as well as describing specificity of translation techniques
applied in translating the drama into Polish. Pursuant to the materials author proves that anthroponyms
are one of the most troublesome during the work with the text and shows how
theatre semiotic helps translator in his work
