Op het eerste Symposium Statistische Software heb ik gepleit voor een landelijke samenwerking op het gebied van programmatuur voor de Gedrags- en Maatschappijwetenschappen. Op het tweede symposium is verslag gedaan van een inventarisatie van ontwikkelingen op dit gebied en zijn de mogelijkheden voor een landelijk samenwerkingsorgaan nader uitgewerkt. In deze bijdrage wordt gemeld dat er een landelijk samenwerkingsorgaan is gesticht, het IEC-Gamma. Voorts wordt verslag gedaan van een zevental projecten die in dit kader reeds zijn uitgevoerd. In het slotwoord wordt kort ingegaan op de toekomstperspectieven van IEC-Gamma
