The module includes a tube-form casingthrough which the pyrolysis gas could flow inupstream/downstream direction (Figure 1). The pilotmodule is equipped with a jacketed cooler. An externalsystem is applied for cooling/heating of the heattransfer liquid (HTF). The ionizer includes star-formcorona discharge electrodes maintained on the highvoltage (HV) rod, connected with the output of HVpower supply unit. A DC negative polarity coronadischarge is used in the pilot module which is designedfor the gas flow up to several cubic meters per hour.The task of the studyis the optimization of designand operation parametersof the pilot module independence air flow ratetrough the apparatus andHTF temperature.Experiments were carriedout without and with airflow up to 3 m³/h and HTFtemperatures in-between0-80°C.At constant values ofHTF temperature andapplied voltage, theincrease of air velocity inthe corona discharge zoneresults in increase of coronadischarge current andpower consumption.Without air flow, the increase of HTF temperature from0°C up to 80°C results in a slight increase of coronacurrent during the tests. With growing of air flow ratefrom up to 3 m³/h, the spark-over voltage decreasesfrom 19 kV to 14,5 kV, what results in decrease ofmaximum value of operation corona current, andconsequently, in decrease of corona discharge powerconsumption. At constant air flow rate and HTFtemperature, no any difference is observed between“direct and “indirect” current voltage characteristics ofcorona discharge measured during correspondingincrease and decrease of applied voltage (Figure 1).Figure 2. In comparison with the test without airflow (room temperature conditions), the generation ofcorona discharge results in the change of airtemperature at the module output. At low values ofcorona power consumption, air temperature decreasesdue to enhance of heat transfer at cold wall of thecooler due to corona discharge electric wind. Furtherincrease of corona power consumption results inheating of air inside the module what results in increaseof air temperature at module output.The results of the tests are used for optimizationof module parameters being applied for condensationof pyrolysis gases downstream the pyrolysis reactor.Figure 1.
