-Zum Wechsel der Mitherausgeberschaft der AMAZONIANA von Dr. José Cândido deMelo Carvalho an Dr. Francisco de Assis Esteves1972 übemahm Hen Dr. José Cândido de Melo Carvalho auf Einladung von Herrn Prof.Sioli die Mitherausgeberschaft der AMAZONIANA. Er trat damit die Nachfolge desventorbenen Prof. Dr. Heitor Grillo in der Redaktion dieser Zeitschrift an. In denzwanzig Jahren seiner Tätigkeit entwickelte sich die AMAZOMANA immer mehr zueinem Publikationsorgan intemationalen Int€resses, in welchem insbesondere auchlateinamerikanische Autoren ihre Arbeiten über limnologische Probleme Amazoniensvorstellen. Dadurch erfreut sich die Zeitschrift in Lateinamerika wachsender Beliebtheit.Herr Dr. José Cândido de Melo Carvalho gibt seine Aufgabe aus gesundheitlichenGrtinden an Herm Dr. Francisco de Assis Esteves weiter. Wir möchten ihm an dieserStelle den herzlichen Dank der Herausgeber, Schriftleiter und læser ftir seine Ttltigkeitübermitteln.Dr. Esteves ist als Limnologe nicht nur in Lateinamerilia bekannt. Nach seinerPromotion 1978 an der UniversitÍit Kiel, Deutschland, añeitete er zuerst an derUniversidade Federal von São Carlos, São Paulo. Seit 1989 ist er an der UniversidadeFederal von Rio de Janeiro t¿itig. Er hat zahlreiche limnologische Arbeitenveröffentlicht, unter anderem eine Einführung in die Limnologie in portugiesischerSprache mit dem Titel "Fundamentos de Limnologia", in der er verstlirkt auf die inLateinamerika erarbeiteten Daten zurückgreift. Ein solches Læhrbuch wa¡ von denStudenten und Professoren des Fachgebietes Limnologie in Brasilien seit langemschmerzlich vermißt worden. Es weist Herrn Esteves als profunden Kenner derLimnologie aus.Dies ist insofern von Bedeutung, als Herr Dr. Esteves sein Amt zu einem Zeitpunktantritt, in dem die AMAZONIANA weireichenden Änderungen unterworfen wird. Siesoll ein neues Erscheinungsbild erhalten und wird auf moderne Textverarbeitungumgestellt. Auch in Bezug auf das Arbeisfeld wird sich die AMAZOMANA insofernöffnen, als sie limnologische Fragestellungen aus dem gesamten Bereich derlateinamerikanischen Tropen aufgreifen wird. Dies ist insofern folgerichtig, als sich vielelimnologische Fragestellungen gebietsübergreifend erweisen. Beitrage aus den an dasAmazonasbecken angrenzenden Regionen tragen in erheblichem Maße zum Verständnisder in Amazonien herrschenden Verhåiltnisse bei und umgekehrt. Außerdem erhoffensich die Herausgeber von dieser Öffnung auch Impulse für einen intensiverenInformationsaustausch und eine slärkere Zusammenarbeit der Limnologen im tropischenLateinamerika. Dafür nehmen sie die Mehra¡beit bei der zu erwartenden höheren Zahlan Manuskripten gern in Kauf.Wir heißen Herrn Dr. Esteves in der Redaktion der AMAZONIANA herzlichwillkommen und freuen uns auf eine erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit.Plön, im Juni 1992 V/olfgang J. Durante seus 20 anos de atividadeAMAZONIANA desenvolveu-se cada vez mais para um órgão de publicação de caráærinfernational, no qual, especialmenæ auûores latinoamericanos publicaram resultados depesquisas sobre problemas limnológicos da Amazonia. Assim, AMAZONIANA galgavacada vez mais respeitabilidade na América Latina. A partir deste volume, o Dr. JoséCandido de Melo Carvalho é substituido na co-edição de AMAZOMANA pelo Dr.Francisco de Assis Esteves. Queremos nest¿ ocasião, transmitir os cordiaisagndecimentos dos editores, redatores e leitores de AMAZONIANA ao Dr. JoséCandido de Melo Carvalho pelo seu Ealbalho.Dr. Esteves é limnológo, conhecido não somente na América Latina. Após a conclusitodo seu curso de doutoramento em 1978, na Universidade de Kiel, Alemanha, comodiscípulo do fundador desúa revista, Professor tlanld Sioli, ele iniciou suas atividadesna Universidade Federal de São Ca¡los, São Paulo e desde de 1989 é professor naUniversidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Ele publicou numerosos trabalhos na iírea deLimnologia, entre eles uma introdução à Limnologia em língua portuguesa:"Fundamentos de Limnologia", baseando-se sobre tudo em dados obtidos na AméricaLatina. Esta obra vem preencher uma importante lacuna, luá muio sentida porprofessores e estudantes no Brasil. Este liwo, testemunha o profundo conhecimento doDr. Esteves com relação à Limnologia.O fato do Dr. Esfeves assumir o cargo de co-editor de AMAZONIANA é relevante,especialmente no momento em que alterações de grande alcance são implementadas.Neste contexto, AMAZONIANA passará a ter nova aparência e será editorada dentro depadrões modernos. Em relação à área geognáfica de abrangência, AMAZONIANA seráampliada na medida que passar a trat¿u também de questões limnológicas de toda aAmérica L¿tina tropical. Esta ampliação não é somente necessária e lógica porquemuitos problemas limnológicos transpassam os limites regionais, desta formapublicações tratando zonas limítrofes à bacia amazônica contribuirão consideravelmenteao entendimento das condições reinantes na própria Amazônia e vice-versa. Além disso,os editores esperÍrm com esta abertura impulsionar ainda mais o intercâmbio deinformações e de cooperação ente os limnólogos da América Latina uopical. Because of his health, Dr. José Candido de Melo Carvalho has now turned hisduties over fo Dr. Francisco de Assis Esteves. We, the editors, tle excecutive editorsand the readers, would now like to take ttris opportunity to sincerely thank the outgoingco-editor for his activities.Dr. Esteves is a well-known limnologist, not only in l¿tin America but alsoinærnationally. After receiving his doctorate in 1978 from the University of Kiel,Germany, he began his work at the Universidade Federal of São Carlos, Sao paulo.Since 1989, he has been at the Universidade Federal of Rio de Janeiro. Dr. Esteves hasauthored numerous limnological publications, including an introduction to limnology inPortuguese entitled "Fundamentos de Limnorogia", in which he places paniðuhremphasis on limnological data gained in Latin America. Such a textbook had ¡ong beensought by students and teachers in the field of limnology in Brazil. This has estâblishedDr. Esteves's reputâtion as a person with a profound understand.ing of limnology.AMAZONIANA is about to undergo extensive changes. It will receive a new image,and its method of publication will be converted to modern text processing. At ttre sametime, AMAZOMANA is extending its scope to encompass limnological questions fromthe entire region of the ropics in I¿tin America. This is a logical development, sincemany limnological problems of Amazonia have proven to be common to its adjacentregions, as well. Conributions from the regions bordering on the Amazon Basin haveimproved the understanding of the situation in Amazonia and vice versa. Furfhermore,the editors hope that this extension in scope will provide an impulse to stimulate a moreintensive exchange of information and an increased degree of cooperation âmonglimnologists in tropical l¿tin America.
