Hidden City: Ciudad oculta – ciudad visible : Visualización de la relación entre hombre y medio ambiente [Visualizing the relationship between humans and the environment]

Abstract

As a researcher of sustainable development, I first met the foundation ph15 at the international environmental event Earth Day in Buenos Aires in 2008. They had a stand and presented their work, which interested me. Since its foundation in 2001, ph15 has worked to strengthen the capacity of the participants to express themselves through the medium of photography, with the conviction that art can be used as a tool for social change. The idea to raise awareness through visualization connects the continuous work by ph15 with the principal aim of the environmental movement that photos and images can be used to promote social change. With this introduction I partly hope to inspire environmental academics and activists who want to use photography in their work, as well as others who have an interest in the use of photography. The catalogue will also serve as a description of the different points of departure that have motivated the project, and not the least to present the selected photographs
