Frogs as bioindicators of chemical usage and farm practices in an irrigated agricultural area

Abstract

This study investigated the status of four frogs and their tadpole population in rice bays of the Colleambally Irrigation Area, NSW. The aims were to determine whether or not there were links between specific agricultural chemicals used in the two main irrigated crops of the area, rice and corn and the presence/absence of frogs in that area; and to assess the abundance, growth and development of tadpoles in the area in the light of such farm practices
