Inclusão Social pelo Trabalho: a Qualificação Profissional para Pessoas com Deficiência Intelectual

Abstract

Researches have shown that people with intellectual disabilities are less included in organizations when comparedwith other types of disabilities. Since the lack of qualification from these people has been used as a reason not tohire those persons, this study investigated how the professional qualification of people with intellectual disabilitieshappens, at the APAEs of five cities at Campo das Vertentes, in Minas Gerais. Socio-demographic questionnairesand interviews were applied with eighteen students and one teacher from each institution. The results showed thatthe training workshops contribute in many aspects, from teaching a professional activity to issues related withdifferent aspects of such people's life, like health and education. However, the qualification is configured in a webof tensions, often contradictory, which cover different views on the part of each actor involved: the Federation ofAPAE, institutions, families and disabled people themselves
