This work has as object of research the novel “Imprudently poetic men”, by the Portuguese writer Valter Hugo Mãe (VHM), published in 2016 and whose theme is the phenomenon of death. In this sense, the general objective of this study is to analyze the concept of finitude in the referenced work. As specific objectives we propose: a) to understand the vision of death elaborated by Mãe in his work; b) identify the different conceptions that the main characters, Itaro and Saburo, have about the end of life; c) to compare the notions of death present in the book with the Catholic and psychoanalytic Christian thought. This is a bibliographic research, with a qualitative approach, whose theoretical framework is supported by: Àries (2012), Henriques (2014), Campos (2013) and Freud (2021).Este trabalho tem como objeto de pesquisa o romance Homens imprudentemente poéticos, do escritor português Valter Hugo Mãe (VHM), publicado no ano de 2016 e traz como tema o fenômeno da morte. Nesse sentido, o objetivo geral deste estudo é analisar a concepção da finitude na obra referenciada. Como objetivos específicos propomo-nos: a) compreender a visão da morte elaborada por Mãe na obra; b) identificar a distintas concepções que os personagens principais, Itaro e Saburo, têm sobre o fim da vida; c) comparar as noções de falecimento presentes no livro com o pensamento cristã católica e psicanalítico. Trata-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, com abordagem qualitativa, cujo referencial teórico ampara-se em: Àries (2012), Henriques (2014), Campos (2013) e Freud (2021).
