Ascariasis di Kalimantan Selatan

Abstract

.Helminthiasis remains a public health problem in Indonesia, one of which is ascariasis caused by Ascaris lumbricoides. Ascariasis causes a decrease in the immune system and inhibit the development of the child as taking in nutrients needed by the body, further it can degrade the quality of human. The purpose of research was to get the representation of ascariasis distribution in South Kalimantan. Observational study with cross-sectional design conducted in thirteen districts of the city of South Kalimantan Province in 2010 and 2011 divided by forest, wetlands, urban and beach ecosystems. The population are all elementary school children in South Kalimantan. The samples were elementary school children of the elementary school was selected as a sample. The selection using purposive sample. The study was conducted by field surveys,that are explanation of informed consent, the distribution and pot collection parasitological examination of feces and worm eggs directly. The existence of ascariasis spread across Kalimantan Selatan in both of forest, wetlands, urban and beach ecosystems with the highest prevalence in three districts namely Tanah Bumbu, Tabalong and Balangan. It's needed health promotion to increase the awareness of personal hygiene and environmental sanitation, especially the use of latrines and also continue mass drugs administration in endemic areas
