The heavy nucleus (272)(108)Hs (Z = 108) and its evaporation daughters were produced using the reaction Th-232(Ar-40, gamma xn) with beam energies 10.5 and 15.0 MeV/A. The giant dipole resonance gamma radiation from the hot composite system prior to fission has been isolated using a differential method. the prefission component shows a strong dipole angular distribution relative to the spin direction.</p
